How to "Invisible" connection of "grandmother's squares"

A detailed step-by-step lesson on the inconspicuous and dense connection of motifs crocheted.

STEP 1

Two motifs folded to the outside.

STEP 2

Take a needle with a large eyelet and a thread thinner than the one from which the motifs are connected. For clarity, the thread uses a contrasting color, but when working it is better to choose a thread's tone close to that (or to one of those) that is used in the work, although the connecting thread after assembly will be invisible.

Do not make a knot at the end of the thread

STEP 3

At the bottom corner of the right square, find the horizontal broach between the loops, as indicated in the photo, and thread the needle and thread under this broach from the bottom to the top.

STEP 4

Find a similar draw in the bottom corner of the left square, stretch the thread through it, also moving from the bottom up. It is very important that the first stitches are made at the same level - this will ensure a symmetrical arrangement of the motifs after the connection.

STEP 5

After completing the first stitches, put the motifs on a solid surface and continue their connection already on it.

STEP 6

Each next stitch should be carried out in the same way as described - under the horizontal sections of the loops, by moving the needle in a direction from the bottom to the top. Do not tighten the thread!

STEP 7

Continue the work, grabbing alternately strands of the right, then the left motifs, trying to pick up sections of symmetrically located loops.

STEP 8

The work will be completed when you reach the top corner of the joined sides and you will not have any horizontal part left. Your motives at the end of this stage look like the photo: freely laid stitches and two ends of the thread.

STEP 9

Take the two free ends of the thread that connects the motifs, and gently pull them in different directions - the stitches between the motifs will be pulled together, and the squares will close together. In this way, you can connect an arbitrary number of squares connected in any way.
